'REPONSES IN PAINT'.
'Responses in Paint’ is Anne Byrne’s inaugural solo exhibition that presents her most recent and previously unseen works in oils and mixed media.
‘Responsive’ rather than singularly focused, this small, selective group of works are reactive to visual prompts presented in landscapes explored by the painter.
Drawing on the tradition of landscape painting, each piece aims to present the painters interpretation of the landscape through an expressive use of oil paint, graphite and charcoal. Energetic but purposeful, considered brush-strokes and mark-making characterise the painters’ approach throughout the works. These new works are underpinned by an intention to find and respond to transitory moments and compositions in the landscapes.
The objective is to invite the viewer to explore each piece as a visual journey, not only to see each as the ‘sum of its parts’, but also to observe the role that the application of paint and media have played in the component elements of each work, each mark having its own legitimate place.
